Talking About Moving Truck Rentals

Hello, my name is Benjamin. Welcome to my site about moving truck rentals. When I had to move across the country for school, I was tasked with taking the moving truck from my hometown to my new residence. The process was a nightmare initially, largely due to my inexperience and unsure expectations. I wish I would have researched the process more before starting out. I learned a lot on the trip though, and now I want to share it with you. This site will cover all you need to know about securing, using and returning a moving truck rental. Please come back soon.

4 Tips For Downsizing Before Moving

For many people, moving to a smaller home after the kids move out makes sense. Downsizing to fit your belongings into a smaller space can be challenging though. If you are looking to downsize, here are some tips to help make the process easier while moving.

Take Inventory

An important part of moving is taking inventory of your belongings so that you can keep track of everything while moving. Since you are downsizing, your inventory list can serve a dual purpose.

Instead of just listing the items you have in your home, sort them into three lists. One list can be for items you must keep, those you are on the fence about, and those you plan to give away.

When it is time to start tossing belongings, you can ensure that the must-haves are taken first. If you have any remaining room, you can then go through the second list to determine if some of those should be taken to your new place.

Set Limits for Multiple Items

One method you can use to downsize is to set limits for multiple items based on space. For instance, you can decide to take only the number of books that will fit a bookcase you are taking. All of the books that do not fit the bookcase can be donated or given to family and friends.

You can apply the same method to items, such as cooking utensils, pots, pans, knick knacks, and clothes.

Get a Moving Estimate

Sometimes, it takes a reality check to help people decide on what needs to be tossed and what stays. If you are struggling to make a decision, get an estimate of your moving expenses from the moving company you are choosing.

Moving companies usually charge according to weight. An estimate showing just how much it can cost to transport all of the belongings you are clinging to might be the push you need to downsize.

Bring in a Friend or Family Member

Your friends and family most likely do not share the same attachment you have to your belongings. If you are having trouble deciding what to toss, bring in a friend or family member to help with the sorting. An objective person can help you see the big picture while moving.

Consult with your moving company, like M Dyer & Sons Inc, to find out other ways you can downsize. Some companies even have trained staff who are experienced in downsizing services.
